EASY WAVES
Spritz clean, dry hair with leave-in conditioning spray (we like Kerastase Nectar Thermique (lotion)), then wrap random sections of the hair around a half-inch curling iron, starting two inches from the roots and leaving a few inches of hair untouched at the ends. Loosen waves with your fingers, then smooth a curl-enhancing cream such asBumble and Bumble Curl Conscious Calming Creme over the hair for added shine.
LOW CHIGNON
This updo is neat without looking too obsessive. For the soft style, Garren set the hair in medium-size hot rollers. Once the rollers had cooled, he brushed the curls out, teased the hair at the crown, then swept everything to the side to create the dip in the front and used pins to secure the ends in a tight chignon at the nape. To keep the teased hair finished try a dry texture spray (we recommend Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray).
BOUNCY BLOWOUT
Give your blowout a makeover—and some movement. First, apply a setting lotion such as Kerastase Volumactive Spray to damp hair and blow-dry upside down to build volume. Once your hair is 80 percent dry, separate it into four parts and roll each section into extra-large Velcro rollers. Take out one roller at a time and dry that section using a round boar-bristle brush and the nozzle attached to your dryer. Finish drying each section by smoothing it with the dryer and brush, then winding the brush up to your scalp like a roller and leaving it there until your hair cools.

New Years Eve 2011 Ideas
Toast the season, and ring in 2012 with style! Top experts reveal their favorite hairdos for a festive night out.
“I wanted to showcase her shoulders, neck, and beautiful earrings,” says Fekkai hairstylist Renato Campora about the ’60s-inspired pony he crafted for Reese Witherspoon.
Coiffeur Giannandrea, known for teasing Drew Barrymore’s strands into voluminous updos, likes the look. “Adding height to the crown can be tricky, but when done in the right proportions, it’s very glamorous,” he says. “A ponytail with volume on top is always stylish.”
When prepping for a red-carpet event, Jessica Biel turns to Fekkai hair guru Adir Abergel. He recommends Biel’s dual-texture bun—sleek in the front and messy in the back—when wearing a sparkling dress. “When hair is touchable, approachable, and a little disheveled, there’s something supersexy about it,” he says.
Guido, Redken’s creative consultant and runway mane master, also prefers understated hairstyles: “When you’re wearing a beautiful gown, it’s more modern to simplify your hair.”
Scarlett Johansson proves that adding texture to a short, choppy cut is especially alluring. “Instead of doing the obvious—amplifying her dress with flashy jewelry, a beehive updo, and lots of makeup—we pared it down,” says hairstylist Duffy of Johansson’s Oscars look. Using a medium-barrel curling iron and sea-salt spray, he whipped the actress’s locks into sexy waves, alternating the direction of the curl for each section and leaving ends straight “for an organic, natural appearance.”
“Adding a jeweled or metallic accessory gives an instant dose of glamour,” says red-carpet hairstylist Mara Roszak.
According to Guido, even the slightest shimmer—like Emma Stone’s delicate brooch—can make a huge difference. “I always love a soft, textured updo—a twist, pony, or knot—with a shiny pin or clip,” he says. “It provides contrast and makes a style statement.”

Fall Ponies
Another summer has come and gone here at Fringe Hair Art in beautiful Kennebunkport. While we are sad to see our summer friends leave for the winter, we know we will see them again before we know it. In the meantime, the salon is abuzz with the latest fall trends!
One of the fall trends we are absolutely in love with is the concept of the ‘Prada pony’ as we like to call it. Ponytails are no longer just for going to the gym or for those days when you hit the ‘snooze’ button one too many times for anything more elaborate. This fall, ponytails are sleek and elegant. We love the ponytail for its flexibility. You can wear it in the office, out with your friends, or at an elegant dinner party.
The low ponytail is an easy, yet chic way to keep your hair out of your face, while mimicking the high fashion of the fall runways. A loose, simple, low ponytail is the perfect complement to any outfit. A great way to upgrade the low ponytail is to hide the elastic with a strand of hair held in place with a bobby pin.
One look we love is this low ponytail with a twist:
It is a simple way to upgrade any look!
We also love how the fall ponytails are all about volume volume volume! Teasing out the hair to give it more body on the top, or teasing it throughout the length of the ponytail gives it a messy-sheik that we are in love with! This voluminous ponytail on Emma Stone highlights the best of both. The volume on top of her head, with the texture in the ponytail makes this a fun and stylish look.
